THE BEGINNING

Rodman experienced an unhappy childhood and was shy and introverted in his early years. When he was young, his father left his family and grew up in a Dallas section considered one of the worst areas in those times.

Rodman was not considered an athletic standout. According to himself, he was "unable to hit a layup" and was listed in the high school basketball teams, but was either benched or cut from the squads. Measuring only 5 ft 6 in (1.68 m) as a freshman in high school, he also failed to make the football teams and was "totally devastated". After finishing school, Rodman worked as an overnight janitor at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.  He experienced a sudden growth spurt, and decided to give basketball another shot.

Playing small forward in his early years before becoming a power forward, Rodman earned NBA All-Defensive First Team honors seven times and was voted NBA Defensive Player of the Year twice. He also led the NBA in rebounds per game for a record seven consecutive years and won five NBA championships (1989, 1990, 1996, 1997, 1998). His biography at NBA.com states that he is "arguably the best rebounding forward in NBA history".

In 1992 he decided he was going to change to be a better person and he started the process.

On August 12th 2011, he became one of the basketball players in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

On the speech he gave during the event of the Hall of Fame he showed gratitude to all the important people in his life and he was very humble admitting his errors, expressing his desire for being a better father and individual.  And physically speaking, he is 50 looking hot as if he was 20.

You only have 10 hours

Our lives spin around the clock; we depend on the hours each day gives us to do all the things we want to do. And this is tide to the fact that nobody in the world really knows how much time has left in life. There is a very famous saying that says “one day at a time”. So taking this as base and being positive; every day we wake up we can think that, at least, we have 24hrs to live. From those 24 hours we have to discount the hours we spend sleeping, eating, bathing, ordering Rhinestone T-shirts, etc.

All this would be approximately 14 hours. That leaves us only with ten hours left. Ten hours left for what?

Life is complicated; life demands from humans a lot of energy. And life also has laws, just like there are laws of physics; and they are %100 accurate always. It doesn’t matter if you are priest, if you through yourself from a fifth floor the consequence will be that either you die or you break your bones; because the law of gravity determines that everything that goes up has to come down. One of the laws of life says that you have to fight for what you most want, because everything has a cost. So if you are like most people; you want to reach your goals, have good relations, be in shape and be smart; feel good and complete. But remember! Everything has a cost; this means you have a lot of work to do. But we human beings tend to get distracted with many things like, trouble, anger, anxiety, envy, superficialities, wrong negative messages, etc. And we leave in second place the most important things, we shoot in our own feet, we sabotage our lives and sometimes we realize this when it’s too late. This is why having the perspective of “only ten hours left” helps our brains stay on track.
If you where sentenced to death and you only had 10 hours left to live; would you have time to waste fighting, resenting, feeling envy, victimizing yourself?

If you only have ten hours left every day to build your life: being a better human being, more attractive, more interesting and have money. Would you have time to waste it watching and listening messages that will only give you negative thoughts? Would you stay around people that don’t value yourself?

I just realized that if I’m lucky enough, every day I have the blessing of opening my eyes in the morning, I only have 10 productive hours left. This really has made me think of the way I invest on my family, love, my job, my body and my dreams.
If I’m lucky enough to get to be 70 I don’t want to look back and regret how little I accomplished for not investing my “10 hours left each day” the best way.

I wish that you take time to think about this so that you can be your best every day; in every role you play in life.
